Hedgy's Guide to Calm as a Common Language

Hedgy's Guide to Calm Self Regulation Program can become a part of your classroom's and school's common language and when this happens watch your classroom's and school's energy shift to a calm and productive learning environment! I worked in a charter school that had an emphasis on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). I have honestly never experience anything like it. I taught at many schools (private and public) before I was hired to teach the music program at the SEL charter school. I LOVED all the schools I taught at, but I was aware of the politics at each one. 

When I started at the SEL charter school, I honestly thought it would be like every other school I taught at but I was wrong. It was truly a different experience and it was because the ENTIRE school spoke a common language, including the families. Every administrator, educator, student, parent, and specialist (I was the music specialist), knew the expectations of all of the individuals in the school and their social and emotional wellbeing was first and academics were second. And because everyone's social and emotional needs were met, academic achievement was stress free and exceptional. When the students (K-5th grade) entered my classroom, there was a feeling of mutual respect and positive and productive learning naturally occurred. Hedgy's Guide to Calm Self Regulation Program can also become a common language in YOUR classroom and YOUR entire school. When everyone in the school is familiar with 'Hedgy Calm Action Song' and knows how to use their Super Powers to Becoming a Super-Calm YOU, then a community support system is formed. 

"Hey, I see your face is turning red...let's use our Super Powers to calm down, OK?" "Oh, Ya..." Sings together, "STOP.LOOK.LISTEN.WIGGLE.BREATHE.and VISUALIZE." 

And use Super Powers together. 

"Thank you! I feel better now!" "Great! So do I!" 

The students were surprised that I knew the common language at the SEL school. I could tell they were relieved that I was aware of the community's expectations and that I was also willing to learn from and with them and was another part of their support system. 

Hedgy's Guide to Calm Self Regulation Program will be a positive and calming addition to any classroom's and school's daily rhythm in routine. Hedgy's only intention is to GUIDE YOU and YOUR students to calm.
