Classroom management. The key to being a successful teacher is classroom management. I am the "happy music teacher" and teach hundreds of students in the week of all ages and developmental levels. Music is very stimulating and in order for me to have a successful lesson, I had to perfect my classroom managements skills.
FIRST : I am very organized and have lessons plans outline for every class
SECOND: I meet the students outside of the classroom and let them know my expectations for them before them enter the room.
THIRD: I greet EVERY students as they enter my classroom. (watch my Toni Morrison video)
FOURTH: We begin each lesson with a calming activity, usually a song that includes movement. This is where I began to introduce the jingle (now called Hedgy Calm Action Song) STOP. LOOK. LISTEN. WIGGLE. BREATHE. & VISUALIZE. what I now call the Super Powers to Becoming Super-Calm YOU! I would sing the Super Powers and do the actions and the students would follow.
Over several lessons, I'd introduce the meaning of each Super Power and action. Students LOVED this and it created a calm and productive classroom environment and the rest of the lesson was rewarding and successful.
Let Hedgy's Guide to Calm self regulation program help you manage your classroom in a fun and mindful way!
